The Davis Cup of Tennis was held April 12-14 and unfortunately due to rain the finals were not played on Sunday so there were no winners and no pictures. However, the four teams to make it to the finals included:
1st Place in Division I: France
Terry Frith, Marty Carriere, Jane Sawvell-captain, Toni Benoit, Jolene Curtis, Sharon Friar, Candice Alexander and Joan Sonnier.
2nd Place in Division I: Sweden
Jay Culotta, Mike Criddle, Peggy Grooms, April Fontana-captain, Patricia Estorge, Joann Lafleur, Donna Brantley and Annie Webb.
1st Place in Division II: Spain
Richard Miller-captain, Dale Thibodeaux, Corina Melancon, Sarah Landry, Judy Edington, Mariela Saucier, Monika Dupuis and Joy Salter.
2nd Place in Division II: Mexico
Pat Landry-captain, James Breaux, Blake Lebouef, Betsy Malhiet, Sandra Clark, Bonnie Butler, Debby Matthews and Susan Higginbotham.
Due to low entries, we are considering some changes in an attempt to continue having the Davis Cup and World Series. One change would be that you would sign up with a partner, and you may sign up with a guest. Another would be, we would change the date, maybe have the Davis Cup in March or May and the World Series in September or November, since the months we currently have the tournaments in seem to be so busy for everyone. If you have any suggestions, plese feel free to let Dianne or Pontus know.
