    Alkaline Water

A lot of hype has been spoken recently about consuming alkaline water to help with health issues like acid reflux, preventing cancer, and cardiovascular disease.  The theory is that intaking water with higher pH (alkaline) will balance the body’s pH, canceling out the negative effects of a acidic diet.  However the problem with this theory is that our bodies are made to maintain to control of our pH on its own, as well as certain parts of our body are made to be more acidic (ex: stomach is highly acidic to digest protein).  Very little research has been done to support these claims of health benefits.  However we do know that alkaline water is great for aiding in the treatment of acidic reflux! Which as we get older, we seem to struggle with.  The other pro of alkaline diets (not just water) is that they promote eating more fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes which is always a great thing for any disease prevention!
