"It's good to be competing in powerlifting meets again. On 8-21-14, I went through an open heart operation for an ascending aortic aneurysm and two leaking heart valves. The section of aorta above the heart was replace and now I have two pig valves in my heart. The healing process has gone well and all of the time that I had spent in the gym had really helped in the recovery process.
Six months after the surgery, I entered the WABDL Benchpress and Deadlift Classic in Cleveland, TX. My recovery was about 77 percent of the power that I had just before the surgery. My benchpress was 341 pounds and my deadlift was 418 pounds. That was enough to win the 65-69 age group in the 220 pound class. Both were world records along with the total for a record.
I can say for a fact that all the time that I spend at Red's has really paid off in this healing process.
I have another meet in Baton Rouge at the end of March and hope to again do what I really enjoy."
Congratulations to Vince. What an impressive testament to working-out and dedication. He is an inspiration to us all!
