Jarred "The Lethal Weapon" Leblanc
(recollections of Chad Broussard-Boxing personal trainer at Red's and professional boxing coach and promoter)
My phone rings, and I answer. On the other line is a mentor, promoter and dear friend, non-other than Mr. Les Bonano. We chit chat for a moment, then he asks the question . . . .Would you take a fight for Jarred LeBlanc against Darion Ford? My thoughts go in to super speed! Darion can fight!! Really fight! Well, so can Jarred. As I thought about this, I had a gut feeling, and almost instantly said yes! We will take that fight! He asks, are you serious! I said, as serious as the vietnam war!! He says O.K. and we hang up!
We all know the enemy inside comes to steal and lie to us so I simply kicked the enemy out of the equation! I would not stand down nor back down, I knew this was a fight, and a fight we would win!!
I did however think about all the top fighters Darion Fought and actually beat a couple of them such as Ivan Robinson who beat Arturro Gatti twice! 3 different people called me and stated " Do not take this fight for Jarred. Not now, he is not ready, yet!
Obviously, Darion has 5 times the experience Jarred has, more fights than Jarred has, better motor skills then Jarred has. Heck, he is a better fighter than Jarred (at least on paper). The past several weeks Jarred has followed exact instructions from me in the gym, listening as his career depended on it. I said to myself, now we got him!
The way Jarred normal fights, well lets just say he turns it into al all out war. I knew if he did this, we would get destroyed! So we sat back and worked angles all coming from the jab!
Everyone knows, work on what you want in the gym, every fighter does what they want to do when the bell rings, right? Fighters are hard headed, right? Well, on October 3rd Jarred LeBlanc looked better than Darion Ford, out worked and out hustled Darion Ford! Sitting back and waiting patiently all the time pumping the jab with an occasional right hand. Then a body shot here and there. Jarred sustained nose damage due to an ugly head butt in round 2. He never became alarmed and continued to work. He did get a bit anxious at times but would always settle back down and get to work. He hit Ford with some great right hand and Ford answered back with his own! This was a great learning fight for Jarred as well as a notch in his belt. Heck, he just beat a real deal professional fighter, with credibility! After the fight I am trying to run the score in my head and I personally had the fight 59-55. That would mean Jarred wins 5 rounds and Ford wins 1. Then the announcer states we have a winner by majority decision . . . He announces Judge 1 has it 59-55, Judge 2 has it 57-57, Judge 3 has it 59-55 for the winner by majority decision . . . . Jarred "The Lethal Weapon" Leblanc. So my personal scoring was the exact same as 2 other Judges! Jarred did very well and this was the biggest fight of his carreer and he rose to the occasion to capture a VICTORY!
Thanks to Les Bonano and all the fans who follow us and help us capture our dreams! For all of you who come out and support, from the bottom of my heart, I truly appreciate you!
